PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

For those of you who were at our May 30 meeting when Clan Mother Shelley DePaul spoke, I’d like to update you that I was able to attend “Homecoming: The Lenape Speak” at Northampton Community College on Saturday. Clan Mother Shelley and several Lenape speakers were able to share their culture with each other and those supporting them. Lenape from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Oklahoma and Canada were on hand. They spoke about their history, craft, horticulture, food sovereignty and justice, medicine and storytelling. This was the first time for this event, and it looks like they will repeat it next year.

Summer is marching on, and I hope you are all staying cool. Musikfest is upon us, and we will be meeting for our First Thirstday on Bethlehem’s Southside at Seven Sirens Brewing Company. This should allow us to avoid the crowds usually seen this time of year around our usual First Thursday meet-up location. We’ll also be ordering for ourselves, so come out and enjoy the evening.

A quick note that our Board of Directors meetings will start a half-hour earlier but remain on the second Wednesday of the month. We hold these meetings virtually and if you are interested in attending, please let me know.

Celtic Fest is approaching and our 5k Celtic Classic run will be before the parade on Saturday September 28. Tom is also looking for someone to act as the lead on that day as he is unable to attend. Please talk to Tom Kolepp if you have any questions.

Please note that our District Governor Katie Farrell will be with us August 22. Please come out and hear about the coming year of Rotary at the district level. Keep an eye on our schedule for upcoming speakers.

Yours in Rotary,

Rodney Conn, President
FIRST THIRSTDAY
AMERICORPS VISTA PROGRAMS

Jennifer Nicolosi, Director of Service Learning Programs for the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley was our speaker at our July 25, 2024 live/hybrid meeting.  Jennifer gave an overview of the United Way's AmeriCorps Vista (Volunteers in Service to America) programs both nationally and locally.  The Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) is a U.S. federal government agency that engages more than five million Americans in service through national service initiatives like AmeriCorps which helps others and meets critical needs in the community in the areas of education, public safety, health care, and environmental protection.  Click Here to view her presentation.

2024-2025 MSR DUES
IF YOU HAVE NOT YET PAID YOUR CLUB DUES FOR THE 2024-2025 ROTARY YEAR, PLEASE MAKE YOUR PAYMENT TO JEAN SEARFOSS, CLUB TREASURER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.  THANK YOU!

On May 30, club Secretary Val Walk emailed Dues Notice for the 2024-25 Rotary year to all active members. (Rotary’s year runs from July 1 to June 30.) Many thanks to members who have already paid, via check or PayPal!

Please note that, in the process of preparing the 2024-2025 Budget, the Board approved a dues increase to $250.00. While Rotary International dues and District dues have been increasing for many years, Morning Star Rotary dues have remained constant for over 10 years.  This was not a decision made lightly by the Board, but a necessary one.

You have the option of paying for the full Rotary year (July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025) or for a half-year (July 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024.)

Instructions for submitting your payment ($250 or $125) were included on the invoice.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact club Treasurer Jean Searfoss jsearfoss@cementemployers.com, or any club officer.

Thank you in advance for submitting your payment prior to the due date of June 30, 2024.
