Two Great Opportunities for Rotary Service
There are two great opportunities for Clubs to provide much needed, immediate service. DG Tony has already informed you of the need:
- For Warm Clothing in Colorado as a result of the wildfires. There is an organization Operation Warm that is collecting money and clothing to send to Colorado for the children and others in need.
- To fund Shelter Boxes for the disaster in Russia.
What makes these two needs great service opportunities for Clubs is that each club can determine how much it can provide and how it wishes to collect the funds. There is no challenge from RI or the District. Each club can set its own challenge within the Club. For instance, a Small Club can choose to provide $250 from the Club budget and ask the members to match that from other donations, to send a total of $500 to Operation Warm or help with the Shelter Boxes. A large Club and aim for a larger amount to match.
Neither project needs to drain the budget, but the collective contributions can go a long way in helping our neighbors in Russia or Colorado. Of course, with all Club projects, there are opportunities to turn the fundraising into a fellowship event or public event. Public events lead to public awareness of “What is Rotary”. Public awareness can lead to support or increased membership for your Club. Joint Club involvement is also a possibility for any of these projects. Remember, even a small amount can go a long way.
