Sep. 2 Message – NEW GENERATIONS!
Aug. 29 – Special thanks to Pres. Elect Tom Kolepp for a great meeting! Larry Eighmy, the founder and leader of Stone House Group, and Retief’s host dad, spoke on energy efficient buildings and LEED certification.
Please join me in giving our newest member, McGehee Isaacs, a warm Morning Star welcome. Tom Kolepp (his sponsor!) had the honor of inducting him.
September means that vacation is over (it was great!), and it’s back to school and work. September is also Rotary International’s “New Generations Month”. As the current issue of The Rotarian states, “When you invest in young people, you invest in Rotary’s future.” Morning Star has a long tradition of support in this area, from Youth Exchange (inbound and outbound), to Camp Neidig (District 7430’s RLYA or Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), to the Four Way Test Speech Contest and including young helpers in our service projects.
Additional Rotary initiatives for “New Generations”, or youth service, include:
Interact – ages 12-18, usually in high schools
Rotaract – ages 18-30, both in colleges and community based
Rotary Community Corps – groups of non-Rotarians who work with Rotary on service projects
Rotary Peace Fellowships – academic opportunities related to conflict resolution
DG Frank Romano suggests that clubs partner with scouting organizations – we share many of the same values. Young scouts learning about Rotary may encourage them to participate, and eventually perhaps become Rotarians themselves.
SEP. 5 MEETING – Maestro Kicska and the Race Committee
The Committee will address the significant logistical challenges with the race at the excellent new venue. Detailed maps of the event and the Race Committee needs from the club will be the focus.

If you signed up but are now unable, we'll appreciate your arranging for someone else to fill in, and notifying Russ Pacala, Robin Metzler and Jean Searfoss.
Fun meetings and activities included fellowship, music, club talents, picnics, a “Fancy Tie Contest”, 5:44 Gatherings, the Hay ride that wasn’t, ditto for the Christmas Party, and the Valentine’s Party that almost wasn’t.
