Sep 9 President's Message
President's Message September 9:
Our September 4 meeting was an apiarian delight with that "bee geek" ("beek" for short) Sharon Jones Zondag, Executive Director of the Laros Foundation, bee-guiling us on the topic of "Why Bees Matter and Why They Matter Now More than Ever." Sharon is a third generation bee keeper and a real honey with a serious bee in her bonnet about all things connected with hives, queens and drones. She educated us on the ecological and economic importance of bees, especially in pollination of food bearing plants. Sharon provided information about the classes she teaches at NCC, encouraged us to learn more about this important niche in our ecosystem and even brought sample honey from the NCC hives.
The MOM-n-PA Dental Clinic is here - this Thursday, Friday and Saturday September 11-13 at AgHall in Allentown. Volunteer registration is officially closed, but the website indicates volunteers can still register on-site on the day of the event. Registered volunteers can visit the website for frequently asked questions and answers at http://www.mom-n-pa.com/volunteer-faqs/. Volunteers for Thursday set up are still needed - just show up and register. Feel free to address any questions to Charlie Incalcaterra. All volunteers are requested to wear Morning Star or other Rotary logo wear and your Rotary pin.
This week's meeting on September 11 will be District Governor Gary Fedorcha's official visit. Gary will be presenting the program, connecting us to the "big picture" of Rotary International and District 7430. Our formal meeting will be followed by a short Board Meeting chaired by Gary and Tom K. All Officers and Directors are urged to attend.
REMINDER TO BOARD MEMBERS: We have a regularly scheduled MSR Board meeting on Wednesday evening at 6PM, then as per above, we meet again with Governor Gary after Thursday morning's regular meeting.
Let's "Light Up Rotary". Regards. President Tom
