President's Message September 2:
On August 28, David Roth, Executive Director of Moravian Village, presented a very informative program about BAM (Bethlehem Area Moravians) with special focus on the healthcare facilities owned and managed by the regional Moravian Church. We had a great turnout to hear David and we took the opportunity to thank him for the great service provided by the Moravian Village staff at our weekly meetings.
One of our guests was young Isabel Burnett; she has participated in several Rotary service projects with her Mom Susan, Dad Ron and her sisters. We were also joined by Lynn Milet who submitted her new member application listing Ginny Wolkoff as her sponsor.
Volunteer registration is officially closed for the MOM-n-PA clinic on September 12th & 13th. Registered volunteers can visit the website for frequently asked questions and answers at http://www.mom-n-pa.com/volunteer-faqs/. The MOM-n-PA website indicates that it is still possible for volunteers to register on-site on the day of the event. Feel free to address any questions to Charlie Incalcaterra.
A rundown on last week's meeting would be incomplete without a quick admission of a few extraordinary glitches that we overcame just in time for David Roth's presentation. For the life of me, I could not connect my laptop to the projector - so no rolling announcements. Connectivity also eluded the crack technology team of Robin Metzler, Jeff Kicska and Ron Helmuth. Ron played presentation messiah by obtaining his laptop from his car - and voila - instant connectivity. All would have proceeded perfectly from there had I not flubbed David's introduction by calling him "Michael" due to some inexplicable synaptic asynchronicity. Oh well, please forgive the imperfect parliamentary prowess of your present President! (Ed. probably means future vacations may be in jeopardy!)
Our September 4 meeting will feature Sharon Jones Zondag, Executive Directror of the Laros Foundation, informing Morning Star Rotary about "Why Bees Matter and Why They Matter Now More than Ever." (See story below). Reminder: on September 11, District Governor Gary Fedorcha will make his official visit so mark your calendar so that you do not forget this special event. (Officers and Directors should plan to attend the Governor's meeting with the Board immediately following the close of our 9/11/14 meeting.)
