District qualification is available online
Online district qualification is available to those who will serve as 2013-14 governors, governors-elect, and Rotary Foundation chairs for all districts. District qualification ensures that districts have the financial and stewardship controls that are necessary for managing their grant funds. Districts must be qualified in order to apply for district grants, global grants, or packaged grants. As of today, 302 districts have qualified.
To start the process, district officers
- Log in to Member Access.
- Select “Rotary Foundation Grants (2013-14).”
- Select “District Qualification.”
Through this process, districts learn about the district qualification memorandum of understanding requirements, how to implement them, and how best to manage Rotary Foundation grants under the new model.
District grant application is now available online
The online district grant application for Rotary year 2013-14 (used for grant projects and activities that begin between 1 July 2013 and 30 June 2014) is available to 2013-14 district governors, Rotary Foundation chairs, and grant subcommittee chairs through Member Access. Districts must be qualified before applying for district grants. Foundation review of spending plans begins in April. Although 2013-14 district grant spending plans can be submitted now, districts are encouraged to allow clubs sufficient time to learn about district grants and submit proposals.
Future Vision pilot districts gather to communicate lessons learned
Districts 6900, 6970, and 7690 came together at the zone 30 and 31 Rotary institute in September and held a panel discussion on what they had learned by participating in the three-year Future Vision pilot. The districts agreed on 10 major lessons learned to share with the Rotary world:
1. Patience and flexibility with the new processes and greater appreciation of Foundation staff support
2. A more businesslike approach to the grant process — from grant applications to reporting and record keeping/fiduciary responsibility
3. An improved and streamlined grant structure, reducing the number of grants from 12 to three: district, global, and packaged
4. Districts receive up to 50 percent of District Designated Fund (DDF) allocations for a district grant, which is 2.5 times the amount previously available for a District Simplified Grant. The increase in available DDF money requires development of a district spending plan.
5. Increased grant activity and improved collaboration and partnership at the club and district levels
6. More focused global grant activities because of their required alignment with one or more areas of focus
7. Larger global grant projects, which allow for greater impact of activities and improved community involvement with more sustainable and measureable results
8. Revised scholar and vocational training team opportunities through district and global grants
9. Greater need for grant education at the club and district levels, including stewardship, record keeping, reporting, sustainability, and outcome measurability
10. Greater need for training Rotarians at the club level and their involvement at the district level to support the Future Vision Plan
2012-13 District Simplified Grants still available
More than 170 districts still participating in humanitarian grants have yet to request their District Simplified Grant (DSG) for 2012-13. The 2012-13 DSGs allow the districts to use up to 20 percent of the DDF allocations that became available this year. Information about DSGs, including DSG request forms, is available on the Rotary website. District governors and district Rotary Foundation committee chairs can find out the amount available in 2012-13 and the status of previous DSGs by contacting the Humanitarian Grants staff.
Available 2012-13 packaged grants
Packaged grants enable Rotary clubs to work with The Rotary Foundation’s strategic partners on predesigned projects and activities funded entirely by the World Fund. Grants for projects with the following partners are currently available and will be awarded to pilot districts on a first-come, first-served basis:
