ROTARY FOUNDATION - EVERY ROTARIAN EVERY YEAR EREY

The 5^th subject of Rotary Foundation’s Areas of Focus is Basic Education and Literacy.  Previous articles have appeared highlighting Peace & Conflict Resolution, Disease Prevention & Treatment, Water & Sanitation, and Maternal & Child Health.  If you have not made your contribution to Rotary Foundation as yet for the 2014-15 Rotary year, why not make a gift of $25 in celebration and recognition of Bethlehem Morning Star’s 25^th anniversary?  Our club goal is for every club member to make a contribution this year.

Basic Education & Literacy – 75 million children worldwide have no access to education.  677 million people over the age of 15 are considered illiterate.  31% of secondary school teachers in low-income countries are not professional trained.  These numbers are staggering.  Contributions to Rotary Foundation are used to provide teacher training, curriculum, and school supplies. Adult literacy programs are sponsored. Student enrollment is promoted by preventing health-related absences through the sponsoring of school feeding programs and providing of safe drinking water and sanitation facilities.
