This is the fourth in a series of short descriptions of Rotary Foundation’s Areas of Focus for the weekly newsletter.  The six areas of focus are Peace & Conflict Resolution, Disease Prevention & Treatment, Water & Sanitation, Maternal & Child Health, Education & Literacy, and Economic & Community Development. If you have not made your contribution to Rotary Foundation as yet for the 2014-15 Rotary year, please try to make your contribution during the month of March.  Our club goal is for every club member to make a contribution this year.

Maternal & Child Health – 9 million children under the age of five die each year due to malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation.  Almost 5% of African women will die during child birth.  80% of these maternal deaths can be prevented with access to reproductive health services and trained health care workers.  Your gift to Rotary Foundation can assist in providing immunizations and antibiotics to prevent or treat illness in small children.  Gifts to the Foundation are also used to provide birthing kits to health professionals in Africa, and provide access to family planning information and resources.  Your small gift can mean a lifetime to a child.
