ROTARY FOUNDATION – EREY                                                                        EREY-EN-c

Bethlehem Morning Star Rotary has established a goal of attaining EREY status for the 2014-15 Rotary year.  To date, 34 member Rotarians have made a contribution to Rotary Foundation.  This also means that 24 club members have made no contribution to date.  Rotary International encourages its members to make a minimum $100 contribution each year to the Foundation, but Bethlehem Morning Star is asking its members to make a contribution as little as $10 to $25 to help reach their goal.  Members can (1) issue a check payable to Rotary Foundation, (2) participate in $2 /week at sign-in table, or (3) enroll in a direct recurring giving plan.

In the coming weeks, a short description of one of Rotary Foundation’s Area of Focus will appear in the weekly newsletter.  The six areas of focus are Peace & Conflict Resolution, Disease Prevention & Treatment, Water & Sanitation, Maternal & Child Health, Education & Literacy, and Economic & Community Development.

Peace & Conflict Resolution - 42 million people are currently displaced by armed conflict or persecutions.  90% of these casualties are civilians, at least half are children.  Through Rotary grants made possible by contributions to the Foundation, Rotarians work to strengthen local peace efforts, train local leaders to prevent and mediate conflict, and assist vulnerable populations affected by conflict, particularly children and youth.  Up to 100 peace fellowships are offered annually on a world-competitive basis for study at Rotary Peace Centers.
