Rotary International President John F Germ has chosen the 2016-17 theme “Rotary Serving Humanity”. Before looking to the year ahead, let’s take a look at the 2015-16 Year as reviewed at the club meeting on July 21. MSR raised over $47,000 at the 5K/10K, Salute the Troops Concert, Spaghetti Dinner and joint club Golf Tournament. Direct recipients & grant recipients received over $36,000, including Special Olympics, Victory House, Northeast Middle School Band/Chorus, and the Bridges Foundation. Service projects included Bethlehem Emergency Shelter dinners, Bike Works, Equilibrium, Dictionary Project, Camp Neidig, Four Way Test Speech and a District Grant for a water project in Nicaragua. $4,000 was given to Rotary International and we achieved 100% Foundation Giving Club for a second year in a row. We volunteered for Salvation Army bell ringing & at Celtic Classic. There is a lot to be proud of as we reflect on the many lives that we have touched in 2016-17. (Please see Past Pres. In the 2016-17 year our objectives are to Strengthen Our Club, Enhance Public Image and Awareness and Focus & Increase Humanitarian Service. In the first Board Meeting of the Rotary year, it was decided to start our First Thursday meetings after work (tentatively 5:30 pm) in September, budget for dues assistance & membership development. Increase our presence on Social Media and participate at Chamber events. 4 Bethlehem Emergency Shelter dinners are being planned, a joint club project- Outreach, the new Tore & Charlotte Hartmann-Hansen Grant & a new Community Service Committee.
It will be an exciting year of maintaining Morning Star Rotary’s great traditions while we embark on creating new traditions that will enable us to grow and continue the amazing work that we do both locally and globally.
