President's Message 8-18-16

Bill Hunter has worked on several service projects in Antigua and spoke of his love of the country.  While working on projects there he met Monica Roberts & Leah Robinson, who are both Principals of Primary Schools.  We were excited to have Monica & Leah visit Morning Star Rotary and speak to the club about the educational system in Antigua.  There are Primary and Secondary Schools that are funded by the Government and there are also private schools.  After completing Grade 6, the students take an exit exam to be placed in Secondary School.  After completion of Secondary School, there are Community Colleges where the students may earn an Associates Degree.  Further education may be obtained at the University of West Indies.  Leah is the Principal of a Primary School in a rural community with about 100 students.  Monica is the Principal of a Primary School with 128 students and 7-8 teachers.   Bill Hunter will follow up with the club to discuss a Rotary Grant to help fund a much needed playground at a Primary School in Antigua.
