President's Message Mar. 26

At Thursday’s meeting we enjoyed the Classification Talk of John Oesmann.

 

John started the trip down his memory lane with a baby/toddler shot involving a “speedo” in a backyard pool in Leonia, NJ. From this early swimming career he proved to be quite the athlete competing in a variety of sports. His high school career was capped by his Palisades Park HS baseball team becoming state champions!

 

John moved onto Rutgers University for a roller-coaster ride of experiences culminating in an engineering degree. Most significantly he met Carrie in ski club who became his wife. Following a varied and successful career in telecommunications he found himself in a position where he could work from home.  Carrie, a highly successful interior designer with clients in the Lehigh Valley, also had the flexibility to evaluate where they wished to live and work in line with their desired lifestyle.

 

Fortunately for all of us they have located in Center City on East Broad Street with Bailiwick Interior Design being in their home as well. John and Carrie have invited everyone to an open house to experience Design in Action on April 30^th.

 

John’s favorite meal is breakfast, so Morning Star Rotary has been a perfect fit. I want to personally thank John for jumping in to Rotary immersion. He went to RLI in October before being technically inducted and followed that up with his first stint on the Board of Directors startung July 1.

Morning Star Rotary Club provided dinner for 35 guests of the Bethlehem Emergency Shelter last Thursday at Cathedral Church of the Nativity.  Heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the fine effort by Morning Star Rotarians in contributing, preparing and serving the dinner at Bethlehem Emergency Sheltering.

 

In our best Morning Star tradition, our service was to the individual men as guests at the Shelter. Their appreciation was evident in the many “Thank you!”s received during the event. One friend of a guest was absolutely amazed with the dinner provided – “meat lasagna for dinner at a shelter!!! Unreal!”

 

Special thanks to Janet Kolepp for coordinating the event. 

 

As your president I really want to thank you all for the participation and support.  It was a great time for Rotary fellowship as well.

 

This community support is provided from December through March. I intend to propose to the Board that MSR makes this a monthly service project going forward and provide appropriate support in the 2016-17 budget.
