We extend a very special Thank You to Mike and Terry Long for hosting the Morning Star Rotary Post Holiday Party last Saturday evening! A great time was had by all, as we enjoyed a wide variety of dishes and a veritable cornucopia of desserts.  All that was exceeded by the warm Rotary fellowship and the opportunity to just be with friends and relax.

The photo below depicts some of our favorite Rotarians heavily engaged in a discussion of the Four Way Test.  As you might imagine, the focus was on number 5 – Is It Fun!

Last Thursday we were fortunate to have a program by Susan Koomar from the Gift of Life Organ Donor Program.

There are nearly 6,000 people on waiting lists in our area alone. Susan presented a comprehensive visual display of how organ and tissue donations save lives.

Mike Parsley came from Nazareth to share his experiences as a survivor of a double lung transplant recipient and also a kidney transplant. (Mike never smoked a day in his life.)

(Thanks to Charlotte Hartmann-Hansen for the speaker photos.)

The FACTS:
  • If you are sick or injured, the number one priority of medical staff is to save your life
  • Donors may have an open casket viewing
  • There is NO cost to the donor or their family for organ/tissue donation
  • All major religions in the U.S. support organ donation
  • Anyone can be a potential organ donor regardless of age or medical history
Time is of the essence when a donor event takes place. It takes about a minute to become a registered organ donor online! By the simple act of registering the proper steps will be taken in a timely manner. www.donors1.org/register.

Just having a provision in your will would be too late.  Please let your family know your wishes, so you can have the comfort of making that final act of compassion to allow others to live.

Have you invited your guests to join us at our club Membership Event at Goosey Gander on January 28th? This will be a great opportunity to introduce Rotary to new friends and potential new members. We want to share the wealth of what Service Above Self is all about.

Please join us on January 14 when Christian Torres and Ewuradjoa Dawson-Amoah will tell us all about Promise Neighborhoods of the Lehigh Valley.

If you would like to learn more about either Bethlehem Morning Star or Rotary International, please contact Ron Searfoss at rsearfos@ptd.net or 610-504-1460.

Remember to be a gift to the world!
