In preparation for the Holiday Season, last Thursday our own Dr. Janet Sipple volunteered to provide “sound advice for Happy Healthy Holidays!”
If you are planning on going to a party but you know you will be grumpy, just stay home! Such gatherings are highly social and people go to enjoy themselves.
Adopt a spirit of optimism. Hold off on topics which may be controversial. Make a positive effort to avoid hot buttons.
Simplify your life style.  Lower your stress levels and enjoy the season. Manage stress in events, life and families. What family traditions can you let go of to reduce the stress of the season?
Don’t be afraid to acknowledge people. Be open and receptive, and understand that the holidays may bring painful memories for some.
Remember what you learned in kindergarten – stress relief – roll your shoulders; make a real big yawn.
Always remember to hydrate! Drink Your Water! Put a little lemon or lime juice in the water for variety. (This also helps prevent hangovers!)
Alcohol has no redeeming qualities! Set limits: 2 drinks of 3 ounces over 3 hours.
Wash your hands frequently and keep your hands away from your face and eyes.
Stay away from coughers! Especially avoid those of the snotty noses!
Take naps. (Try to keep these under control as they tend to grow in length!)
Eat before you go to a party. Especially consume protein.
Stay away from dips – they are known in the nursing community as “snot bowls” for obvious reasons.
Nuts! Roasted, dry and unsalted.  They are both good and bad for you.  Enjoy but like with many things, moderation is needed.
The day after, flood your system with water! And eat oatmeal……floaters not sinkers!
Happy Holidays!  Have a great time.
