Last week’s meeting was a lot of fun! And I have noticed as the year goes on that more and more people through my day on Thursday ask “Hey how was Rotary today?” So I guess word must be getting out. And last week I got tell them how much fun it was, not just because we got to give out $6,000 and have a lot of laughs doing it, but that we had two potential member there who got swept up in the fun … one that was a really good sport about it, at least I hope he was. We will see if he comes back.
Then right on the heels of that we had our second annual Rotary BOWLARAMA this past Saturday night with 28 people coming out for a great night of fun. It’s a good thing Jeff was bowling with a broken leg because his score was off by at least 5 points from last year and it gave the rest of us a chance to try and keep up. None of us will ever bowl as well as Gary’s sons but we banished them to their own lanes. I collected a VERY happy dollar from Rafael but I will let him tell you all about it at the next meeting. Karen will always have the nicest bowling shoes. Many thanks to the Hampton Lanes. They did a terrific job hosting us again.
So this weekend I was thinking, this is a GREAT time to bring in potential members to the club. We have several fun events coming up over the next few months that can make new members feel very welcome, and very Rotary-educated, very fast.
¨ First up we have a couple more speakers who are grant recipients, Lorna Clause of Turning Point and Stephanie Hnatiw of the YWCA
¨ The Foundation Committee is preparing a presentation to update us on Future Visions. Our club is qualified to apply for these grants already – so if you have any ideas for grants, or want to know more, talk to Gretchen, Tom or Dee.
¨ We have the 4-Way Speech Contest in March and then the Regional contest which will be in early April
¨ Our Spaghetti dinner this spring is great fellowship event, if you love to cook, if you love to wash dishes or even if you just love to EAT – we will be looking for your help
¨ District Conference, a great weekend event up at Skytop – a great way to meet other District Rotarians and celebrate the year that was, and get in some golf
¨ District Assembly – a shorter version of the Conference, half a day, at DeSales – (far less expensive!) – sometime in May

So if there is someone you think might make a great Rotarian, this is a great time to introduce them to the club because there is A LOT of interesting and fun stuff going on and many opportunities for folks to get involved and learn more about Rotary.
We are looking forward to hearing from Lorna Clause this week.
