Happy 3rd Week Of Things I Love About Rotary, Rotarians! The 3rd thing I love about Rotary is that there is always something new to learn or discover about Rotary, somewhere. I have been a member for 8 years and I feel like I have just barely scratched the surface. When I mentioned this to my husband the first thing he said was “Maybe you are just a slow learner.” Let’s just assume for the rest of this weekly address that that is not the case. Rotary is so vast, and opportunities to get involved no numerous and the people who participate are so many (and so interesting and so kind) and the challenges around the world sometime so seemingly overwhelming, and so ever changing that if you were in Rotary your whole life you could not possibly learn everything there is to learn or meet everyone there is to meet or solve all the problems there are to solve. Rotary is not static. It is always changing because we are a service organization serving the needs of the communities that we live in and those needs are ever changing. As Rotarians we need to learn as much about Rotary as we can as fast as we can. It a large, fascinating, complex organization but it works and we all need to keep up. Aside: And it gets even better (it always does!) We don’t only learn about Rotary at Rotary. We have great speakers at Rotary who come and tell us about thing we never knew we never knew. I can’t tell you how many times I almost blew off a meeting because the speaker was going to be someone from a Park or National Preservation something or other. But I am always thrilled I came. I used to work for a company and at the beginning of every meeting one person had to give a 3-5 minute energizer – some story that was so inspiring, it energized the room and go the meeting off to a great start. I consider my weekly Rotary meeting to be my WEEKLY energizer. Speakers We look forward to our speakers this week:
Topic: St Luke’s Hospice Announcements District Conference The District Conference is April 26-April 28th at Skytop. On March 1st – the District has to release any un-booked rooms back to the hotel. You still may be able to get a room after that but it is not guaranteed. Please see the District website for further details. 4 Way Test Speech Contest We now have 5 contestants for our 4-Test Speech Contest which will be held on the evening of March 20th at Bethlehem City Hall.
