Pres. Sue's Feb. 26 Message

I just cannot believe it is the end of February already! The Rotary year AND the calendar year are flying by.

This is my last week of telling you all the things that I love about Rotary. Even though Rotary is a very serious, grown-up organization that set out to solve the world’s problems. And even though its full of a bunch of old men who are all CEO’s and other people who own their own companies and are terrifying to meet and approach and are all very intimidating…

NOT!

The thing I love most about Rotary is that is where I come every week to have FUN! And make FRIENDS! I lived and worked in the Lehigh Valley for 5 years and I did not have many friends to show for it until I came to Rotary. And the moment I joined Rotary, I suddenly had 1.2 million of them.

And I know that no matter what else is going wrong/crazy in my work or home life, when I come to Rotary on Thursday morning, or to bowling or to a 5K/10K meeting or to a Spaghetti Dinner or to a Conference Planning meeting or a to a Casino night or whatever it is, I know I am going to be surrounded by friends and I am going to laugh (hopefully a lot!) and I am going to have a great time. And that is always a great way to start the day, the night, the week, the month, the year,

Don’t get me wrong – there is going to be hard work involved, a little compromise, a few battle lost, and maybe a little hair pulling, and teeth gnashing and a few bad words spewed in frustration – but in the end, it will all be worth it and we will all be better for it. And we will look back on it fondly. Right Bill?

I joined Rotary for many reasons. To get closer to my dad, to get involved with my community, to Network. I have to tell you, I did not join Rotary because I thought it would be “Fun!” At no time did I ever think that walking into a large room full of strangers would be “fun”. That standing up and giving my classification talk would be “fun”. That asking people for money for a 5K/10 would be “Fun” – ok, that really isn’t “FUN” at all but its “REWARDING” and that is almost the same thing as “FUN” and I am out of weeks so close enough.

Anyways, the “FUN” part of Rotary turned out to be a total bonus to all the other reasons that I joined Rotary and it happened almost instantaneously the moment I was met by my first Morning Star person and that has made all difference.

This Week!

We have a very busy meeting this week so please be on time or even better- a few minutes early.

Please arrive promptly and get your food and get seated, by 7:30 if possible.

At 7:30 we will have the Invocation and Pledge and Introductions of guests and visitors.

We have TWO programs this week.

We have had a special request from the Yardley Rotary Club to present their Water Project to us. They are looking for financial partners for their Future Vision project. The deadline is the end of March. They are going to speak from 7:40-7:55, including questions.

We are asking the Membership to email Tom Hartzell any feedback about participation in the program- if you favor the club participating in the project or not. If you do not have Tom’s email, you can send it to me and I will forward it to him. Tom will summarize the feedback and present it to the Board meeting on March 13th

At 7:55 we will have our regular Business meeting followed by our regular program which is our Membership Committee. The Membership Committee has been hard at work creating some new material for new Members – just in time as we have 4 of them and a few more waiting in the wings!
