Oct. 7 Message – Rotary Leadership Institute
Oct. 7 Message – Rotary Leadership Institute
On Saturday Oct. 5, six Morning Star Rotarians experienced Rotary Leadership Institute, or RLI, in King of Prussia, PA. The annual turnover of leadership positions in Rotary requires constant effort to prepare more Rotarians for those responsibilities. The leadership course is offered in three full-day parts. Iryna Levytska, Ron Searfoss and I attended Part I, with sessions on leadership, how Rotary is organized, engaging members, the Rotary Foundation, ethics and vocational service, and service projects. Pres. Elect Tom Kolepp and Asst. Gov. Marianne Aronson attended Part II, which covered strategic planning & analysis, targeted service, club communication, team building and attracting members. Past. Pres. Sue Burnett, having already completed Part III, took part in the in-depth seminar of the Graduate Program. (This after she attended new grants training last Saturday after all her help before and during the race - thanks Sue!)
Sharing the experiences and ideas of people from so many different clubs is terrific, and we made new friends, too. RLI’s sessions on leadership help the personal development of participants in all areas of their lives, not just for Rotary. Morning Star reimburses 100% of the cost, and we encourage ALL interested members to attend. (There is no commitment to be a club leader afterwards; we simply think that learning more will motivate members to volunteer.)
RLI of Northeast America holds classes throughout the northeast (naturally). While King of Prussia was the closest location, several others may be within commuting distance. Please see www.rlinea.com for future dates and cities. And please talk to any of us who just attended if you may be interested!

QUOTE of the Week:
“Every day when I got off the bus to walk to the build site, I had this movie quote in my head … that said “do good things today”. I guess that’s enough to ask, and the very minimum that I should expect of myself. And last week, I made it.”
– K. Catherine (Casey) Roney
On the Habitat for Humanity “Mekong Big Build”, where she volunteered with her Dad, Tom Roney, who presented to Morning Star Rotary last week.
Please come this Thursday to hear our own Marianne Aronson!
Yours in Rotary, Jean
