President’s Message October 7:

Having caught our breath from the extraordinary MOM-n-PA Project and a successful 5K / 10K Race, we turn our attention to our fall schedule which includes:

  • This Thursday’s District 7430 Golf Tournament - Do we have any golfers attending?
  • The Dictionary Project starting with Dictionary labeling and packing on October 14 and 20.
  • The Sipple Lecture on Human Trafficking on October 22 followed by Fellowship Event at the Brick Restaurant in Bethlehem.
  • A great opportunity to learn about the Rotary Foundation on October 25 at the Rotary Foundation Seminar. (Kolepps plan to go; offering car pool to King of Prussia.)
  • Preparation and Ticket sales for our Salute the Troops Concert on Sunday November 9.

Last Thursday, we had an informative talk by Melinda Stumpf about PPL and how our electric utility is improving its service record through better right of way maintenance and investment in advanced switching technologies. Melinda also encouraged us to “shop for our power” and told us more about this money saving opportunity.

Over the weekend, Ron and Jean Searfoss attended RLI (Rotary Leadership Institute Level II) in Harrisburg – check in with them about their experience and what they learned – then sign up for RLI on November 8 in Wilkes-Barre.

Also, on Sunday afternoon, Rick and Molly Santee, John St. Clair and Janet and Tom Kolepp attended the “Tastes and Tunes” fundraising event sponsored by Bethlehem Rotary Club at Hotel Bethlehem. Bethlehem Rotary hopes to top the $30,000 they raised last year through this ticket sale and auction event which benefits Lehigh Valley veterans. Rick not only attended the event, but was an integral part of the “tunes” as the strolling accordion player.

Join us this Thursday October 9 for Hev Siang speaking to us about how "Your Differences Are the Key to Your Success". Hev is an author, speaker, entrepreneur and Rotarian – a member of the North Philadelphia Madrugadores Rotary Club which is a Latina y Latino breakfast club. Since Morning Star is a very “different” Rotary Club filled with some very “different” members, Hev will help us discern how our differences can lead us to great success as we “Light Up Rotary” in 2014 – 2015.
