President’s Message October 15:

Last Thursday at our October 9 meeting, Hev Siang delivered a thought provoking speech about how "Your Differences Are the Key to Your Success". Born and educated in Cambodia earning a degree in Architecture, he came to the United States 10 years ago and earned his master's degree in Project Management from Boston University. Hev now has the distinction of being the only male member of the North Philadelphia Madrugadores Rotary Club - so he certainly qualifies as the "most different person” in his club. Hev is an inspirational young fellow – a published author and aspiring public speaker – both in a second language.

Please put the following MSR events on your calendars and find more details on our MSR website:

  • The Dictionary Project labeling and packing on October 14 and 20 at BAPL .
  • The Sipple Lecture on Human Trafficking on October 22 followed by Fellowship Event at the Brick Restaurant in Bethlehem.
  • Rotary Foundation Seminar on Saturday October 25 at the DoubleTree Hotel in King of Prussia. The topic is: GLOBAL GRANTS & DISTRICT GRANTS:   OUR FOUNDATION DOING GOOD RIGHT HERE AND IN THE WORLD. Morning Star will refund the registration upon completion and Kolepps are organizing carpools.
  • Rotary Leadership Institute on Saturday November 8 in Wilkes-Barre. Registration will be refunded by the club upon course completion and car pools will be available. So far, Searfosses, Kolepps and Cheryl Baker are registering. All are welcome. See www.RLInea.org for details and registration for RLI I, II, III or Graduate.
  • Salute the Troops Concert on Sunday November 9. Chairperson Gary Hartney encourages members to recruit sponsors, get in your ads or recognition listings, and line up family and friends for ticket sales.

Your Morning Star Rotary Board held our monthly meeting on October 8. The club is in good shape financially. We made our final donation to the Steven Godbolt Scholarship Fund which was the beneficiary of the 2013 and 2014 golf tournaments. We will contribute to the 2015 Rose Parade Rotary Float. The Community Development Grant process is underway and proposals are due soon. Membership is officially down one, but we anticipate the Isaacs transfer to a club in Columbus, Ohio. Our goal is to increase net membership by five, so we need to recharge our “Every Member Brings a Prospective Member” initiative. The Board decided to conduct a strategic planning process.

Join us this Thursday, October 16 for our own Dr. Janet Sipple’s presentation on “Human Trafficking and Rotary’s Response.”

This will be an informative introduction to The Eighth Annual Janet A. Sipple Lectureship entitled “Human Trafficking: Global and Local Perspectives” to be delivered by Dr. Donna Sabella of Drexel University.
