Nov. 4 Message – In Bethlehem, Rotary is on a Roll!
The Morning Star and Bethlehem Rotary clubs have been very busy lately … and very successful!
SALUTE THE TROOPS IS ALMOST HERE – NOV 10!
Chair Gary Hartney needs 8-10 volunteers to help with parking, ticket sales and handing out programs. Please email glhartney@aol.com or sign up at this week’s meeting. (Plus a few people afterwards to help straighten up. Note: All volunteers will be able to enjoy the concert in its entirety.) I hope Ron Demkee’s terrific presentation on the Allentown Band last Thursday encourages even more of you to sell (or buy) tickets, and to attend!
Our primary beneficiary is Victory House of Lehigh Valley, specifically its veterans’ programs. Victory House is an excellent partner with marketing, selling tickets and sponsorships, as well as supplying volunteers for the concert and our Spaghetti Dinner.
DICTIONARY PROJECT & NOV. 7 SPEAKER JACK SILVA
Phase one of our Dictionary Project with Bethlehem Rotary is going beautifully, and chair Ellen Roberts will let us know the stamping, packing and handing out dates for additional schools when the next book shipment is received. Don’t miss our Nov. 7 program! Jack Silva, Assistant Superintendent BASD, will give a curriculum guru’s views on Bethlehem’s 3rd graders, dictionaries and reading! Because Jack needs to get to work, his presentation will start about 7:35 AM – please arrive early. (We’ll have club announcements afterwards.)

Two matching grants of $1,000 each have been approved by Thrivent Financial for Lutheran chapters! We’ll have a good estimate of net proceeds after this month’s board meeting.
Joint Thanksgiving Meeting Nov. 20
Bethlehem Rotary will host its annual Joint Thanksgiving Meeting right here at Moravian Village on Wed. Nov. 20. This great event includes your favorite Thanksgiving foods plus salads, wine and a sundae bar. Bryon Grigsby, president of Moravian College, will be the speaker. We hope to have strong Morning Star representation as we meet with Rotarians from around the Lehigh Valley. Please let me know if you plan to attend – we need to give an estimated count of attendees from our club. Cost is $20 per person at the door, with $5 of that going to Polio Eradication.
Congratulations for Bethlehem Rotary’s “Tastes & Tunes”
Sunday’s Morning Call featured a very nice article on Bethlehem Rotary’s first (but not last!) “Tastes & Tunes” fundraiser, which netted over $30,000 to benefit the Hispanic Center Lehigh Valley. Congratulations to our “parent” club on a great new event!
