Phase 2 of the Kivutini Primary School project wrapped up with a real sense of accomplishment and celebration. This phase tackled unfinished work from Phase 1—like installing electrical systems, adding glass to windows, and tiling the porch area—making the school safer, brighter, and more welcoming. One of the biggest improvements was the addition of gabions near the creek, which help stabilize the land and protect the school from erosion. These upgrades weren’t just cosmetic—they made the space more functional and resilient.
Security was also a major focus. A new perimeter fence and gate were installed, giving students and staff peace of mind and helping define the school as a protected learning space. The celebration photos say it all: rows of students in uniform, gathered at Rotary-branded desks, fully engaged in reading and learning. The energy of the event—complete with decorations, presentations, and raised hands—reflected the pride and excitement of the community.
Thanks to extra funding, the project went beyond infrastructure. Desks were purchased for the upper school, giving older students a more comfortable and dignified place to learn. Even more exciting was the launch of the Kenya Connect mobile library program, which brought books directly into students’ hands. Seeing kids absorbed in titles like Perfect Hunter and The Wise Little Girl was a powerful reminder of how access to stories can spark imagination and growth.
This entire effort was made possible through a collaborative partnership of five Rotary Clubs and District 7430 Grants funded by generous contributions from Rotarians to The Rotary Foundation. Their support helped turn a vision into reality—creating a space where learning, safety, and opportunity now thrive.
