For decades bowling leagues, civic organizations, clubs, and churches have experienced declining membership. In 2000, author Robert Putnam addressed this concern in his famed book Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community. The reality is little has changed.

In a new documentary Join or Die, Putnam traces the half-century story of the unraveling of America’s community connections. Notable appearances include former U.S. Surgeons General Vivek Murthy, Pete Buttigieg, and Harvard economist Raj Chetty. The film also features emerging community groups like Odd Fellows, Bowl Portland, and Red Bike & Green.  Central Moravian Church, through the efforts of its Mental Health Team and funding from the Prime Fund, is delighted to sponsor a free showing of Join or Die on Monday, March 10th, at 7 p.m. Tickets can be obtained by visiting the ArtsQuest website below and clicking on “Free Tickets.”
