President’s Message for April 9, 2015

Last week’s “Life and Times of Kristian Schafer: A Morning Star Rotary Classification Extravaganza” certainly lived up to its billing because Kristian floored us with his eight minute video life story presentation. Kristian wowed us with his folksy / techie / storyteller side. The video is not on YouTube yet, but when it is we will let everyone know so those who missed it can get up to speed on Kristian.

Kristian is such a popular guy that the audience was filled with visiting Rotarians and guests. Past Rotary Presidents George Mowrer of the Bethlehem Club and Ricky Gower of the Saucon / Center Valley Club, respectively, were there to cheer on Kristian. And our Vice President, Sharon Fontana is serious about “Every Member Brings a Prospective Member” by hosting Mary Gonzalez and Mary Rooney.

This week’s presentation is by Ham Malek who will speak to us about the District 7430 Million Dollar Challenge. Come out and hear more about it.

The Four Way Speech Contest Regional Competition is this Saturday April 11 from 10 – 11:45 AM at SH 143 Fowler Hall, Lehigh Carbon Community College, 4525 Education Park Drive, Schnecksville PA. Please come out to support Abby Burnett (Freedom HS) and Blake McGill (Bethlehem Catholic HS) our local winner and runner up. It would be outstanding if MSR had a huge turnout. Here are upcoming club events for your calendar. See the MSR website for additional information:

  • MSR Spaghetti Dinner: Friday May 1 at East Hills Moravian Church. Tickets coming soon.
  • Golf Tournament: June 1, 2015 at Silver Creek Country Club to benefit the Bridges Foundation. Brochures available for distribution to sponsors and golfers!
  • Celtic Classic 5K / 10K Race: Saturday September 26, 2015.

  • District 7430 Conference: April 24 – 26 in Gettysburg. Contact Marianne Aronson if you forgot to register and still want to attend.
  • District Training Assembly: Saturday May 16 starting 7:30 AM at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell. MSR reimburses attendees and all MSR’ians are encouraged to attend. Signups will be circulated after District Conference.
  • Camp Neidig (RYLA) 2015: June 19 – 22 with closing ceremony & dinner on June 22
  • District Turnover Meeting and Dinner: June 29 at William Penn Inn in Gwynedd (Ambler), PA.
  • Rotary Leadership Institute: Saturday November 7, 2015 at the Radisson Hotel in King of Prussia. (Other dates are available at different locations.) MSR reimburses attendees and all MSR’ians are encouraged to attend.

With only April, May and June left in this Rotary year, please do your part to meet our 2014-2015 initiatives – “Every Member Bring a Prospective Member” and our “Every Member Every Year” Rotary Foundation contribution. Our Elliott ladies – Dee and Jess – are taking the “Prospective Member Challenge” by committing to each bringing a prospective member in May.
