Welcome to the Morning Star Rotary Club!

When I (very shyly) approached the Morning Star Rotary club 7 years ago, I was told “Don’t worry! We are the fun club! AND we are the young club!”

Well, we might not be so young any more but we are still lots of fun and I am thrilled that you have decided to spend a few minutes to visit our club and our website.

If you are just considering Rotary for the first time, Welcome! Perhaps you are wondering why other people join Rotary. Most people join Rotary because they are looking for fellowship, friendship, community service, a little of both, (in a few case, it might be originally because their boss told them to but in the end, they will be glad they did). I myself joined for many reasons.

I was first exposed to Rotary in high school when I participated in a local Rotary public speaking contest up in Toronto. The topic was “What can Canada do to Promote World Peace?” But that is not what brought me to Rotary later in life.

I actually joined for a few different reasons.

First, I was desperate for friends. I had lived in the Lehigh Valley for 5 years and between work, and school and 2 young children, I had no time for socializing and I suddenly realized that I did not know anyone. Morning Star Rotarians are some of the friendliest folks around. Every year we have a number of different fellowship events that are a lot of fun. Even our weekly morning meetings are usually a lot of fun and a great way to socialize and get energized for the day!

Secondly, my dad, who lives in Maine, had joined Rotary much later in life, after retirement, and it has made a profound impact on him. We did not have much in common and I hoped that by joining Rotary, we would finally have something to talk about and I was right! Not only could we visit each other’s clubs and share ideas but as an active traveler, my dad could share some fascinating stories of Rotary clubs that he has visited around the world.

Finally, I joined Rotary to become involved in my community and set a good example for my kids, and its working! I wanted to do some form of community service but I could not figure out how or where. Since I work full time, I could not volunteer at my children’s schools. Also, I wanted to do something that could involve my family. Rotary is the perfect opportunity for my family to learn about giving back to the community in which we live. My kids really enjoy our annual Spaghetti Dinner and 5K/10K Run and now my oldest is starting high school and wants to start and Interact club!

Whatever your motivation, your curiosity, I hope you will visit us for breakfast. The coffee is always hot, the smiles are always warm and welcoming,
