TechFire Robotics
The FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an international robotics competition, founded by inventor Dean Kamen in 1992. The mission of FIRST is “to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self confidence, communication, and leadership. ”FIRST has grown into four divisions: Junior FIRST Lego League (grades K-3), FIRST LegoLeague (grades 4-8), FIRST Tech Challenge (grades 7-12), and the FIRST RoboticsCompetition (grades 9-12).Team 225 TechFire is comprised of 31 high school students from 9 local schools. In 2015, they won the Mid-Atlantic District championship. In 2016 they again won the Mid-Atlantic District Championship and were finalists in their Division of the World Championships. In 2018 they finished second in the World Championships in Detroit, MI.
On Tuesday, August 21, 2018 they showed the York-East club the robot which was used in the competition in Detroit. These high schoolers are the future of American innovation.
