York County Commissioners Programs

Commissioner Susan Byrnes was elected in 2015.

The following information was taken verbatim from the York County Commissioners website.

"Within county government, Byrnes serves on York County's Depository Board, Elections Board, Prison Board, Retirement Board and Salary Board. She's a member of the county's Children's Roundtable Board and a board member for the York County Conservation District.

Byrnes also serves as a board member for the York Opioid Collaborative."

"She is president of the Veterans Memorial Gold Star Healing & Peace Garden and board member of the York County Veterans Outreach. She is the founder of the Byrnes Health Education Center and author of "Giving from the Heart: A true story of how one woman’s tragedy inspired a community," which details the health education center’s creation.

On the state level, she is co-chair of the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania's Behavioral Health Committee as well as the county's Stepping Up Initiative.

A native of York, daughter of Charlie & Gussie Petron, and one of seven children, she is a graduate of York Catholic High School and St. Agnes School of Nursing in Baltimore. She worked as an Emergency Dept. RN at Georgetown University Hospital and York Hospital.

Recipient of numerous community achievement awards, in 2007 she was recognized with an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters by York College of Pennsylvania."
