On 8/08/2017 at the weekly breakfast meeting of York East Rotary,  local high school students awed Rotarians with their “competition” robot.

Students from eleven York County high schools and representing grades 9-12, come together to form Techfire Robotics of York, team 225.    Techfire is a non-profit organization encouraging students to develop their interest in science, math, engineering and technology.

Students partner with volunteer mentors and have 6 weeks to  build a robot that runs on a 12 volt motorcycle battery.  The robot,  built to perform functions outlined by competition specifications,  is then  taken to compete against other student built robots locally, nationally and even internationally.

But, Rotarians were assured that this activity was not just about building a robot, but about learning life skills.  These students are our future innovators and  leaders who will design and build solutions for our world.
