![]() April 1, 2025 - The York East Rotary Club welcomed Lisa Weigard, a representative of Sparrow Place, to speak about the realities of sex trafficking and the organization’s mission to support survivors. Sparrow Place is a York County-based nonprofit dedicated to providing safe housing, restorative programs, and community education to combat human trafficking. Weigard shared eye-opening statistics about human trafficking emphasizing that it is not just an issue in distant places but a growing problem in Central Pennsylvania. She explained the tactics traffickers use to manipulate and exploit vulnerable individuals, as well as the challenges survivors face in rebuilding their lives. Sparrow Place’s mission is to provide a long-term, trauma-informed residential program where survivors can heal and regain independence. Weigard highlighted the organization’s efforts to educate the public and collaborate with law enforcement, social services, and community partners to support victims and prevent trafficking. Rotary Club members engaged in a thoughtful discussion, expressing their concern for the issue and their interest in supporting Sparrow Place’s initiatives. Weigard encouraged attendees to help spread awareness, support survivor services, and advocate for stronger protections against trafficking. |
