The York East Rotary Club, a key sponsor of Safety Town, gathered to honor Jane’s contributions and welcome Lydia into her new role. Jane Hoffman, who has been at the helm of Safety Town for the past 42 years, shared highlights of the 2024 program. Safety Town, a well-loved community initiative, aims to educate young children about various safety protocols through interactive activities and engaging lessons. This year, the program saw 111 children attending the 2 week-long sessions. The mission has always been to equip children with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe. Jane credited the success of the program to the dedicated volunteers, many of whom are high school students and community members, and the unwavering support from the Rotary Club. The volunteers and staff are the backbone of Safety Town. Their enthusiasm and commitment make all the difference. As Jane Hoffman steps down, she expressed confidence in Lydia Eifert, who will take over as the new director. Lydia, who has been involved with Safety Town for several years, brings a wealth of experience in child education and community programs. Lydia has shown remarkable leadership and a genuine passion for children’s safety. She is the perfect person to lead Safety Town into its next chapter. Lydia Eifert addressed the York East Rotary Club with enthusiasm about her new role. “I am honored to continue the legacy that Jane has built. My goal is to build on the strong foundation and introduce innovative ways to reach even more children in our community,” she said. Lydia plans to expand partnerships with local schools and integrate more technology into the program to keep up with the evolving safety landscape. The Rotary Club members expressed their gratitude to Jane Hoffman for her years of service. Under her leadership, Safety Town has become a staple in the community, teaching thousands of children crucial safety skills. Rotary Club President, Greg Kern and Kris Pollick, Committee Chair, presented Jane with a plaque recognizing her dedication and impact. “Jane, your work has made our community a safer place. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” Greg said. As the meeting concluded, there was a palpable sense of excitement for the future of Safety Town.
