October 14, 2025 - The York East Rotary Club recently welcomed Tom Davidson, Volunteer President of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association, as their guest speaker. Davidson shared his passion for preserving and promoting the history of America’s first transcontinental highway—the Lincoln Highway—which runs right through York County. During his presentation, Davidson discussed the upcoming Lincoln Highway Association Conference, which will be held here in York County. This national event will bring enthusiasts, historians, and travelers from across the country to celebrate the road that helped shape America’s transportation history. He explained that hosting the conference locally is a special honor and an opportunity to showcase the many historical sites and stories that make York County’s stretch of the highway so unique. Davidson highlighted several local landmarks along the Lincoln Highway, including the Modern Aire Motel and the iconic Haines Shoe House, both long-time fixtures that reflect the charm and nostalgia of mid-20th-century travel. In addition to his volunteer leadership, Davidson has also designed an online resource for individuals interested in exploring the Lincoln Highway through York County. This interactive tool helps residents and visitors alike discover historic sites, photos, and stories tied to this legendary roadway. A Pennsylvania native, Tom Davidson has volunteered with the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Lincoln Highway Association for many years, dedicating his time to education, preservation, and community engagement. His presentation reminded Rotary members of the remarkable history that still lives on in the roads we travel every day.
