Houston Flood Relief Effort
How much can our York-East Rotary Club help out? Bring your cash or check donations to the meetings during Sept. and we will see..........As the devastation continues to grow in the Houston area, so does the outpouring of support and an increasing desire to help. It’s so hard to sit back and watch the suffering, especially for Rotarians who are naturally inclined to help. With emergency responders and groups like the American Red Cross and many faith-based groups already on the ground, the District 7390 approach for the short term is to send financial support along with our continued prayers. To that end, one of our generous local Rotarians has already offered up a $5,000 match for district-wide donations. I think we can even exceed that!
If your club or individual members would like to send tax-deductible donations and help us double the $5,000 in relief support, please send checks made payable to the Carlisle Rotary Club Foundation in the mail to Carlisle Rotary Club Foundation, P.O. Box 301, Carlisle, PA 17013. Please send by Saturday, September 30.
Each gift will be receipted by the Carlisle Rotary Club Foundation. One collective donation on behalf of District 7390 will be sent to our sister districts in Texas. We are currently working with District 5840 in the Austin, TX area to discern where our donation can make the most impact and will proceed accordingly.
In the longer term, Rotarian Peg Sennett will serve as the District 7390 Disaster Relief Chair and help to coordinate district wide efforts to respond to future needs in Texas when we learn exactly what they are. The road to recovery is sure to be long and hard, and our hands-on efforts will be needed along the way. We are always open to ideas and willing to discuss ways in which District 7390 and our clubs and members can put our resources toward disaster relief. Committee members will also be requested to join this effort. Stay tuned.
Many thanks to Rotarian John Bailey who has already dispatched three buses and loads of supplies to provide relief to the areas most affected by the storm. Wishing safe travels and a safe return to all of his staff members heading into the storm zones.
