Generational Differences in the Workplace
We are forced to come together in the workplace where we share similarities but also encounter differences. The “x” symbol was used to represent growing apart or conflict in that direction. Working towards common goals needs to be the dedication, despite our differences. To deal with disengagement in the workplace, the “Y” symbol to indicates bringing together of individuals, goals, and plans - a commitment to making it work The entire team’s input should be sought in planning on how to best achieve the goals. Periodic follow-up meetings are designed to keep everyone on track and involved. The strategic plan and goals of the organization need to be communicated to the team as well as why the organization is striving to meet these goals. | Finally, ongoing communication and updates are important for everyone on the team to receive. Ultimately, in order for these steps to successfully occur, an awareness of differences within the team and a genuine commitment to bringing everyone to a “Y” path needs to happen.
