Easterseals

June 3, 2025 — Sue DuMars, representing Easterseals Western and Central Pennsylvania, recently spoke to the East York Rotary Club, offering members an insightful overview of the nonprofit organization’s vital work supporting individuals with disabilities and their families across the region. DuMars began by sharing the rich history of Easterseals, which was founded over a century ago in 1919 to advocate for children with disabilities. Since then, Easterseals has grown into a nationwide network of affiliates committed to ensuring that people with disabilities can live, learn, work, and play in their communities with equality, dignity, and independence. Focusing on services specific to the Central Pennsylvania region, DuMars highlighted a wide range of programs including early intervention for infants and toddlers, therapeutic recreation, autism support, employment services, adult day care, and assistive technology. She also discussed Easterseals’ specialized summer camps, which provide children and adults with disabilities a chance to experience the joy and independence of camp life, with fully accessible activities and staff trained to meet unique needs. DuMars emphasized the importance of community partnerships and volunteer support, noting that Easterseals relies on generous individuals and organizations to help sustain their programs. She invited the Rotary Club and its members to get involved, whether by volunteering, attending fundraising events, or simply spreading awareness.

Her presentation included a powerful video montage featuring families whose lives have been positively impacted by Easterseals services. East York Rotary members expressed appreciation for DuMars’ visit and commended the organization for its continued dedication to serving those in need throughout the region.
