 May 6, 2025 - Amy Rote, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central Pennsylvania, recently spoke at the East York Rotary Club, shedding light on the organization's recent merger and its expanded initiatives aimed at empowering youth across the region. In October 2024, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region acquired the York and Adams County affiliate, leading to the formation of Big Brothers Big Sisters of South-Central PA. This strategic move expanded the organization's reach from five to seven counties, now encompassing Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, and York. "We are now serving 7 out of 8 counties in the South-Central PA region," Rote stated. "Our new name aims to enhance our visibility and strengthen our connection with the community." Rote emphasized that the merger was initiated at the request of the York & Adams affiliate to bolster services and introduce innovative programs tailored to the unique challenges faced by youth in these communities. "We were asked by our neighboring York & Adams affiliate to assist with the growth of services and to introduce innovative programs that respond to the challenges and needs of our youth in these communities," she explained. The organization continues to operate its York office at 227 W. Market Street, Suite 104, ensuring sustained local presence and support. Marina Brown, Director of York & Adams Counties, highlighted the benefits of the new location. The York new office space is better suited for the growing team and expansion of our services. Among the programs being introduced is "Bigs in Blue," a national initiative that pairs youth with local law enforcement officers to foster positive relationships and community engagement. This program has already seen success in Lancaster County, with partnerships established with 17 local police departments and state police. Rote concluded her address by expressing gratitude to community partners and emphasizing the organization's commitment to expanding its impact. |
