A Castle Fit for Kids
On 10/10/2017 York East Rotary welcomed Colin Lacey, the Director of Parks and Recreation from Springettsbury Township. He discussed the planning, creation and ultimately the projected opening of Castle Park, 1501 Mt Zion Rd, in Springettsbury Township. The new park, described as “a castle fit for kids”,replaces the former Creative Playground in Springettsbury Park. He explained that the old park was the site of great community sentimentality, heartfelt attachment and great memories. . The new Castle Park. is designed to promote greater outdoor, social and physical activity for the children. It also provides a healthy opportunity for purposeful play that will help build motor skills, enhance cognitive, social and emotional development while enhancing self-esteem. The new park provides a safe and accessible place for families and is organized into two sections , ages 2 – 5 y.o. playground and then the 5 – 12 y.o. playground. Age-specific styles of play, allow children to be more creative, social and imaginative in their play.. While he park expenditures may seem extreme, including $300,000. for playground equipment, there has been great community support. It‘s been said that it’s hard to put a price on a child’s happiness.. In remembrance of the multiple names engraved on the picket fence at the old park, you can have a personalized message / name on a picket for the new fence for a modest donation. The Grand opening and ribbon cutting for the park was October 28, 2017.
