Meeting Minutes

Beach Chairs, towels, sun umbrella…what, what am I doing? Well, I am making a packing list for our upcoming trip to the beach. What? Sure, I can also write the minutes of the Rotary Club of Harrisburg meeting on July 11th, but only if I can keep going with my list.
Swim suits, flip flops, sunglasses…on a perfect sunny summer day when sunglasses were definitely a priority, the room was filled with smiling Rotarians and guests as President “Ever Cool” Matt rang the opening bell at 12:11. Members Kevin Lutz and John Hickey offered the invocation and National Anthem and then members enjoyed five minutes of high-fives, hugs and handshakes.
Beach ball, frisbee, sand toys…President Matt had four items to complete his year with the gavel. He noted we need a few sponsor ads for the annual Club printed roster, invited Awesome Amy to outline our Fellowship Event at the Beach Club on July 27th, gave the mic to Marvelous Meghan who introduced a total of six guests today and wrapped up his year moving aside so PDG Una Dos Tres Martone could move with her purple tennis shoes to the podium.
Grisham novel, crossword puzzles, Mad magazine…so rocking Rotary, Una gave kudos to Matt and outlined her excitement of the upcoming Rotary year with President Jennifer Jones at the helm. Una summed it up perfectly, “it will be an exciting year to serve as President” just before she officially asked Beth Mihmet to pledge her best and accept the challenge (all met then by a roaring standing ovation.) Una finished by also securing the pledge of their best from our Board and officers.
Surf Board, fishing gear, kite and string…”wish you could see my purple sneakers, I am honored to serve’” President Beth said with a smile and sincerity. The good news is if you missed this meeting, you have about 50 more to see how awesome Beth is going to be in leading our Club! With wit and wisdom and with fanfare and frolic, Beth outlined her seven priorities for the upcoming Club year.
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen…”we will have fun—priority # 1” (This scribe believes her.) Membership growth to goal of 155---priority # 2. Host great RAMs (Rotary Alternate Meetings---priority # 3. Host and celebrate Service projects---priority # 4. Keep rolling with Service on a Monday initiatives---priority #5. Secure and launch a City of Harrisburg project coordinated with City Hall---priority # 6. Be excellent at Extravagant Welcomes to members and guests every time---priority #7.
Cooler, ice, cold drinks…it was 12:49 and President Beth finished what may have been the best incoming President speech ever by thanking 8 special folks who have been on her team and will be rooting for her in the coming year. The Rotary theme this year “Imagine Rotary” prompted her to ask what we might see at the end of her term. She was picturing a big sheet cake with 155 members iced on top and Anne Marie Judson at our meeting awarding the first ever Judson scholarship and everyone wearing purple sneakers. Meeting adjourned, now where are my car keys….
