Lunch Meeting at the Hilton
Monday, March 6
Jordan Ames, Executive Director
Veterans Outreach of Pennsylvania

Major Jordan Ames is currently the Executive Director for Veterans Outreach of Pennsylvania.  He is a 21-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps.  Maj Ames is from the Harrisburg area and is a 2001 graduate of Central Dauphin East High School.  He began his active-duty career two weeks after graduating high school and retired on July 1, 2022.

Maj Ames served in the enlisted ranks for 10 years before accepting an officer’s commission.  He served at the Presidential Retreat, Camp David as a security guard followed by service with 2d Force Reconnaissance Company and 2d Marine Special Operations Battalion in Camp Lejeune, NC.  He deployed once to Operation IRAQI FREEDOM as a Force Recon Marine and once to Operation ENDURING FREEDOM as a Marine Special Operator before attending Penn State University as part of an enlisted-to-commissioning program.

Upon receiving his commission as an officer, Maj Ames became an infantry officer and served with 2d Battalion, 2d Marines, 2d Marine Division in Camp Lejeune.  After two deployments to the European Combatant Command area of responsibility, he returned to Marine Corps Forces, Special Operations Command (MARSOC).  Maj Ames is the first Marine to have served as a special operator with MARSOC in the enlisted ranks and then return as an officer to serve as a Special Operations Officer.  He returned to 2d Marine Raider Battalion (redesignated from the former “2d Marine Special Operations Battalion” to retain their legacy from the Marine Raiders of World War II) and was given the assignment as Team Commander, Marine Special Operations Team (MSOT) 8213.  He deployed with MSOT 8213 to the country of Jordan to train, advise, and assist the Jordanian Special Forces (JORSOF).  Maj Ames deployed on his sixth and final deployment to Afghanistan in October 2019 to serve as the aide de camp to the Deputy Commanding General, Special Operations Joint Task Force—Afghanistan.

Maj Ames holds a Bachelor’s degree in History from Penn State University and a Master’s degree in History from Millersville University.  He is married to the former Sarah Snyder of Rutherford.  They are the proud parents of seven children, six of which they adopted.  One son, Corporal Benjamin Ames, is currently serving as a Marine embassy security guard with the Marine Security Augmentation Unit at Quantico, VA as part of the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group.  Following that assignment, the Marine Corps will assign him to an infantry battalion.

Luggage Case Needed

The Tech Team is in need of a Large or X-Large hard-shell luggage case (checked-baggage size) to store their equipment.  It is currently being stored in three different containers, and they would like to consolidate everything for ease of transporting to Club events.  Please reach out to Sean Eng (seng@mtb.com) or Scott Stevens (sstevens@44businesscapital.com) if you have a case you can donate.  Thank you!

The City of Harrisburg presents the M&T Bank Ice & Fire Festival on Saturday, March 4. As one of Rotary Club's focuses is providing service to others, we invite you to join us for two upcoming SERVICE ON A MONDAY opportunities this month!
The Salvation Army is looking forward to having Rotarians join us as volunteers on March 20th from    12 noon to 1 PM!

We will break up into groups depending on the number of attendees.

Here are some of the projects they plan to have available:
  • Emergency food box packing – these are boxes of food items that we have for families that come in for emergency assistance
  • Breaking down spices - we receive bulk spices and we break them down into smaller portions for our families
  • Book labeling – labeling books that are donated for our families

Tours will be available to anyone interested.

Please reach out to fellow Rotarian Toni Lynn Mark for further information, and make sure to register below!

Join us at the Food Bank on March 20th from 5PM - 7 PM helping to fight hunger across Central PA!

Off-site packing location is at 1530 B Bobali Dr, Harrisburg--located off of South 19th Street.

Please park in designated spaces in front of facility, no street parking

Their volunteer team will walk you through orientation and the project. During the orientation, the volunteer team will ask several questions to confirm volunteers do not have any symptoms and were not exposed to COVID-19. As of June 3, 2021, masks and gloves are no longer a requirement for volunteering, but they are a personal choice. We understand wearing a mask is a personal preference and we ask for respect and kindness toward those who choose to continue wearing a mask and gloves. All volunteers must be 18 years or older and wear closed toe shoes.

Central Pennsylvania Food Bank truly appreciates our Rotarians' support as they work to fight hunger, improve lives, and strengthen communities in Central Pennsylvania. If you have any questions prior to the project, please contact fellow Rotarian Meghan Bachmore at executive.director@hyp.org.
