Stop Hunger Now Project explained to Lynn Rotarians

Mark Vermouth of Stop Hunger Now addressed the Lynn Rotary Club recently to explain the Stop Hunger program and to demonstrate how prepackaged meals are assembled by humanitarian and civic groups and distributed worldwide to areas in need.  The Lynn Rotary invited representatives from Rotary groups and other civic groups, such as the Lions Clubs, to join them in hearing the presentation and plans are being made for a number of groups to come together to fund a meal packaging event which would assemble a minimum of 10,000 meals. 

 

Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief agency that has been fulfilling its commitment to end hunger for more than 15 years. Since 1998, the organization has coordinated the distribution of food and other lifesaving aid to children and families in countries all over the world.

 

Stop Hunger Now created its meal packaging program, in 2005. The program perfected the assembly process that combines rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavoring mix including 21 essential vitamins and minerals into small meal packets. Each meal costs only 29 cents. The food stores easily, has a shelf-life of two years and transports quickly. Stop Hunger Now works with international partners that ship and distribute the meals in-country.

 

Club members were interested in the program and are planning to join in an event sometime in early 2015, along with partners from other civic organizations and student volunteers.  Stop Hunger Now would supply the raw ingredients and teach volunteers how to package the meals.  Rotarians and other volunteer s will provide the funds and the manpower to build each meal.  When distribution of these meals occurs in the world, Stop Hunger Now will notify our coalition where the meals were sent.
