D7930 Response to Super Typhoon Haiyan
How Can Rotarians in District 7930 Help Those Impacted By Typhoon Haiyan
We are all saddened by yet another natural disaster in our world – this time Super Typhoon Haiyan, in The Philippines. Thankfully, we have heard that our Vocational Training Team partners seem to have escaped the worst of it.
As Rotarians, our first reaction is to want to do something immediately to help. But, as we have learned in past years, our role should be on the “Recovery” stage, not the “Relief” stage. The Red Cross, ShelterBox and other organizations are better suited for the relief effort. Our help is most needed in the months and years ahead, as the country works to regain stability. Be assured that we will make a donation from our District Designated Funds, on behalf of all our clubs in D7930, much as was done for Japan after the tsunami.
Further, we strongly encourage all individuals and clubs in D7930 to donate to the Rotary Foundation Annual Fund, which will boost our Grant-giving power three years from now, when our “Recovery” help will really be needed. That is how we can really make a difference, by Engaging Rotarians to Change Lives.
