HANGING OUT WITH BESSIE'S HOPE

 

More than half of nursing home residents never receive any visitors. Let that sink in... never. Humans by nature are social creatures which is why we can all easily empathize with how troubling this fact is.

 

Last Wednesday, several of our Five Points Rotary Club members had the privilege of volunteering with Bessie's Hope, a program with a mission to enhance the quality of life for nursing home and assisted living elders by bringing generations together in mutually rewarding relationships.

 

On this special evening, we honored the nursing home residents with a much-desired connection. We sang songs, played games, gave warm hugs, and made genuine human connections. The residents regaled their long history with Denver, their previous careers, and even their current struggles and achievements. 

 

While our intention was to volunteer and to give our time and support, in the end, it was clear we were the ones who really received an invaluable gift.
