A total of 47 Rotarians and volunteers distributed Census door hangers and flyers to over 1,950 homes and personally connected with 140 residents who had Census-related questions during two Census canvassing events, held in October 2009 and January 2010.

DENVER, CO - February 16, 2010 - On Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, the Five Points Cultural District Rotary, in partnership with Denver's Complete Count Committee (CCC), held their second Census 2010 canvassing event to distribute Census literature and information to residents of Northeast Denver. The first canvassing event by the Club was held in October 2009. Five Points Cultural District Rotarians were joined by volunteers from the Rotary Club of Denver Sky High, the Denver Cherry Creek Rotary Club, the Rotary Club of Denver â€" Club 31, and the Lakewood Foothills Rotary Club who assisted in reaching a greater number of neighborhood residents. Martha Rodriguez, the Denver Office of Strategic Partnerships Census Outreach Specialist, and Councilman Paul Lopez also provided guidance and assistance. Ms. Rodriguez had visited the Five Points Cultural District Club as a guest speaker prior to the first service project in October. She educated those present about the background and purpose of the Census and the importance of this Constitutionally-mandated exercise to all people living in the United States. Armed with this knowledge and passionate to count the traditionally undercounted populations of Denver in 2010, a total of 47 Rotarians and volunteers distributed Census door hangers and flyers to over 1,950 homes and personally connected with 140 residents who had Census-related questions during the two canvassing events. Five Points Cultural District President and Denver Complete Count Committee member Anthony Graves stressed, "There are few service projects that will have a deeper impact in our communities than leading an accurate Census count. Our efforts to ensure that everyone is counted will result in millions of dollars in federal funding for social programs and much-needed infrastructure in our community." There is only one month left before the 10-question Census questionnaires start mailing out in mid-to-late March.
