Our International Committee hosted a trivia night to help raise funds in support of ShelterBox, Rotary's partner in international disaster relief. Karen shared the story of ShelterBox and about the great work that they do, then quizmaster Jennifer kept us laughing as she stumped us in multiple categories. Thank you to everyone who participated and who made a donation to ShelterBox. Congratulations to Linda Newton & Keith Laughton, who joined from Ottawa to win the quiz, and congratulations to our door prize winner, Michelle, who got a solar lamp and cell phone charger - just like the ones that go into a ShelterBox.

Whyte Avenue Rotary Club is partnering with the Rotary Club of Edmonton West to send a student to the digital Adventure in Citizenship Program.
In 1951, The Rotary Club of Ottawa established its annual "Adventure in Citizenship" Program in which some 220 senior high school students, from across Canada, spend four days in Ottawa experiencing tours, lectures, discussions and social events designed to enhance their understanding and appreciation of Canadian citizenship.
This annual event provides a unique opportunity for a selected group of young Canadians to come together to gain a better understanding of our country. Through meetings with political leaders, senior officials and others, they learn a great deal about the workings of our democratic institutions. Through meeting one another and having discussions among themselves, they learn to appreciate the diversity of Canada and the privileges and responsibilities of Canadian citizenship.
The 2021 Edmonton Area Rotary Integrity Awards
The Integrity Awards are an opportunity to recognize a non-Rotarian who lives by Rotary principles and celebrate their contribution to our community. Each Rotary and Rotaract Club in the Edmonton area is encouraged to identify an Integrity Award Recipient. Please submit names for nomination to President Stan Bissell prior to March 31st.
This year will feature a virtual awards ceremony on 17 May. Save the date! The virtual doors will open at 6pm and the award ceremony will begin at 6:30 sharp.

What is The Rotary Foundation’s Funding Cycle?
The Rotary Foundation has a unique funding cycle that utilizes contributions for programs three years after they are received. The three-year cycle gives districts time for program planning and participant selections, and allows The Rotary Foundation to invest the contributions. The earnings from those investments help pay for administration, program operations and fund development costs.
Your contributions to the Annual Fund in Rotary year 2020-21 will be invested in Rotary year 2021-22, and projects will be selected in Rotary year 2022-23, with the funds actually spent in Rotary year 2023-24.
