This week we had Lisa Dockman, Energy Transition Project Manager from the City of Edmonton, as our guest speaker. Lisa spoke to us about the many City of Edmonton initiatives to mitigate climate change. We learned about how the Change for Climate program is helping Edmontonians make their homes more efficient through energy audits and incentives, solar rebate programs, and energy mapping. She also shared how The City is helping people get around in more environmentally friendly way through greater mobility choice and electrification of public transport and rebates for electric cars.

Thank you Lisa for sharing ways that we can act locally to make us more resistant to the global impacts of climate change and to protect our quality of life, health and economy.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Team Fundraiser
The Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue loves doing hands-on volunteering. Making meals for the families in the Edmonton RMH is one of our favourite volunteer activities. With COVID-19 restrictions, we can't volunteer in person, so we are fundraising to donate the funds that we would have put toward making meals for the house this year. When we volunteer in person it would have cost our club approximately $250 for the food to make a meal for the house. Our goal is to fundraise enough to cover the cost of two meals.
You can support our team fundraiser by clicking the link below and making a donation. Tax receipts will be provided for donations over $20.

Foundation Moment

Our Rotary Foundation grant oversight is top notch! Here are some financial best practices with grant funds that our club treasurer and Foundation chair follow to make sure grants run smoothly and funds are secure:

• Follow a spending plan to distribute and use grant funds for the stated purpose in a timely manner.

• Make project-related expenditures by cheque or other traceable method.

• If payments are made electronically by one person, maintain a paper trail showing that the payment was approved by both signatories.

• Maintain detailed receipts and record each transaction in a ledger. The ledger should list each transaction, noting the date, amount, and reason for the transaction
