Fresh Routes at The Neighbour Centre
We are excited for the launch of a new initiative from the Neighbour Centre. The Neighbour Centre is one of Whyte Avenue Rotary's community partners and we are thrilled to have been able to help support the Fresh Routes program.
Global Grant Scholarship
On November 3rd, Whyte Avenue Rotary voted to support the Rotary Global Grant application of Anna-Marie Robertson. 
 
Global grants are for graduate students studying abroad in one of Rotary’s six causes: Promoting peace; Fighting disease; Providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene; Saving mothers and children; Supporting education; Growing local economies. Scholarships last from one to four years and can include an entire degree program.
 
Anna-Marie Robertson is a University of Cambridge law graduate, Terry Fox Humanitarian Scholar, Paul Harris Fellow, Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Citizenship Medal recipient, and former Rotary Youth Exchange Student (2012-2013). 

Anna-Marie is pursuing a master of laws degree in National Security Law at Georgetown University (2021-2022) as a Georgetown National Security Law Scholar. We are hopeful that Anna-Marie will be the successful recipient of the Global Grant Scholarship.

Dinner to Door Deliveries with The Mustard Seed
When the pandemic was declared, the Mustard Seed meal service was halted due to restrictions enacted by AHS. Unfortunately, this meant that the usual 200-400 recipients of meals at their 96th Street location could not be served. It took a little over two weeks for the service agency to adapt to the restrictions and find a way to engage volunteers in a safe way to get meals out to those in need with the Dinner 2 Door program launching officially on April 1.
Arrangements were made for volunteer teams to cook at their facility in a safe, socially distant manner. Volunteers were engaged for meal delivery every weeknight with approximately 228 packages of cooked meals heading out to community members experiencing food insecurity.
Our club, with support of friends of the club and members of the YEG Passport Club has successfully delivered pre-made meals every Thursday for the past six weeks and will continue to deliver meals until the end of the month (with one volunteer spot still available on November 26th). Thanks to everyone for stepping up and helping our neighbours in need.
Update from the Combined Rotary Women's School
In 2018, Whyte Avenue Rotary partnered with the Amarok Society and several other District 5370 Rotary Clubs to build the Combined Rotary Women's School in Bangladesh. In the school's latest update, they describe their struggles and challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reshaping Rotary’s future with online learning
The COVID-19 pandemic has presented a challenge to the way Rotarians meet and provide training. But it has also provided an opportunity for Rotary to adapt and innovate.

We’ve seen that district and club leaders have turned to the Learning Center for resources and materials to help convert in-person training events to virtual learning sessions. Between April and June 2020, the number of people using the Learning Center rose from 2,800 per month to 10,000.

Some highlights of how the Learning Center has grown from its August 2018 relaunch to June 2020 include:
  • Members took more than five times as many courses in June 2020 as they did in August 2018.
  • The zones with the highest course completion rates are in Asia, Africa, and South America.
  • Our most popular courses are Getting Started With the Learning Center, Rotary Club Central Resources, and Protecting Personal Data.
  • In districts that receive Learning Center reports, an average of 9.3% of members use the Learning Center — four percentage points higher than districts that don’t receive reports. If you’re a governor, district trainer, district membership chair, or district Rotary Foundation committee chair, take the Access to Learning Center Reports course to get access to reports.

Memorial and Tribute Gifts

If you wish to honor or memorialize someone with a contribution to The Rotary Foundation, the best way is to use rotary.org/donate and choose “I would like to make this donation in honor or in memory of someone.”  The donor making the contribution will receive gift credit and a tax receipt (where applicable). The person they wish to honor, or the person’s family in the case of a memorial, will be notified of the gift.
