The Final Push: Pool For Polio
Our 2nd annual Pool For Polio FUNdraiser is coming up on Tuesday, November 14th, at The Billiard Club, 2nd floor, 10505 - 82 Avenue, starting at 6:00 pm. You don't have to play pool to enjoy this terrific event. You only need to follow a few simple steps:
- Buy a ticket. It's not too late to purchase tickets on-line for $25.00, including pool, appetizers and one highball before 9:00 pm.
- Bring a friend. This is the perfect opportunity to introduce new people to the Whyte Avenue Rotary experience.
- Bring the money from you raffle ticket sales, along with any unsold tickets. (But, mostly money from sales!)
- Bring an item to add to our silent auction. Be creative. You never know what's going to kick off a bidding war.
Last year, we raised $2,400 towards our Polio Plus goal. This year we are aiming for $3,000, which will become a $15,000 donation after matching funds from both the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Government of Canada.

We are so very close to completely eradicating polio, worldwide. Be part of this important and historic effort by joining us for an evening of fun and FUNdraising.
Brick Art by Aaron
We were very privileged to hear from mom Marilyn Bercovich, whose 24-year old son, Aaron, is a unique artist working in a unique medium; LEGO®  bricks. As the parent of a child living with autism, Marilyn has a special perspective on helping her son to find his gift and create his own path in life.

What started as play and a creative outlet has now grown into a small business, with Aaron creating original and commissioned works using only the iconic building blocks as his medium. Having built store display models for the busiest LEGO® Store in Canada, Aaron now creates portraits, corporate logos, and transforms almost any image into a beautiful art mosaic. For a young man that thrives on organization, following patterns, and being precise, he has found a niche that is ideally suited to his skills and personality. With support from Marilyn, and family and friends, we look forward  Aaron's continued growth and success as an artist, entrepreneur, and a young man building (with LEGO®) his own future.

Welcome, Mike Greaney
On Tuesday, November 7th, Mike Greaney was inducted with the member classification "Retail", with daughter Erin watching the proceedings. As a long-time resident of Strathcona and an active volunteer, he is sure to be a valuable addition to our club. Welcome, Mike, to the Whyte Avenue Rotary family.
