Inspiring Visit with District Governor Tracey Vavrek
On November 12th, The Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue was honoured to host District Governor Tracey Vavrek and her husband Vince. Tracey started the meeting getting everyone jazzed up with some music and dancing (our club has some surprisingly good dancers!) and then discussed her personal experiences with how Rotary connects and enriches the world.
Tracey connected with members by discussing the Rotary logo and how it is a recognizable and inspirational symbol to people all around the world. Tracey discussed how the Rotary logo helps to connect people as well as her own experiences seeing the Rotary wheel abroad.
Tracey also talked about the importance of Rotary projects and how we sometimes will never know the depth of their impact. Tracey discussed how a small act of kindness to someone can leave a big impression on people, their families, and their communities.
What's more, Tracey came to a meeting with the Rotary Whyte Ave team leads, scheduled prior to the meeting. She asked encouraging questions to the members on what inspires them, on our club strengths, and what we wish to see improved. She then provided some great insights on how to strengthen the club in order to help Rotary Whyte Ave move towards club goals. Great advice includes how the Rotary Citation can act as a valuable guide and some great insights on the benefits of doing club health checks regularly.
Stocking Stuffer Donations Collected in Support of the Skills Society!
The Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue is collecting stocking stuffer donations in support of the Skills Society and we need your help!
The Skills Society provides support services to children and adults with developmental disabilities, survivors of acquired brain injury, and their families. Your donations will go towards holiday stockings for people supported by their Outreach Program.
Donations can include:
Chocolates or other holiday treats
Clothing (socks and underwear or winter gear such as mitts and toques)
Monetary donations (to go towards the purchasing of stocking stuffers)
When is it needed by? It would be appreciated if we can have all the donations before Thursday, December 5th.
How to donate: If you have a donation, please contact Paige. You can also bring your donated items to one of our Tuesday Rotary meetings or contact Paige or Kevin to have them picked up.
Maria has been a fantastic part of our club for years. Maria recently received a new opportunity in another province and will be moving away from Edmonton. Though sad news for the club, this is amazing news for Maria! We just wanted to take a moment to thank Maria for everything she's done for the club and wish her the best in her new adventure! Thank you Maria and best of luck in your new role!
Collecting Reusable Travel Mugs & Go Cups in Support of the Neighbour Centre
Have any go cups collecting dust? Bring them to the next Rotary meeting to donate!
The details:
What's being collected: reusable travel cups/mugs
Why: to donate to the Neighbour Centre to be used by their patrons.
How many cups are needed: We're aiming for 50 travel mugs raised!
How to donate: contact Kevin (kggmcleod@hotmail.com) or bring your mugs to the next Rotary Club meeting.
We will donate the cups on December 12th when we volunteer at the Neighbour Centre Christmas Party.
Whyte Ave Sponsors RYLA Participants
The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Institute brings Interact Club executives from across District 5370 together for a one day developmental conference packed with workshops and speakers intended to empower confidence and teach vital skills required by those stepping into leadership positions in their clubs. The Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue was able to support young leaders by sponsoring new participants and an advisor to take part. Hope everyone had an amazing time!
