A motion was presented to the Whyte Avenue Rotary Club on the nomination of Laura Milroy for membership into the Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue.
She has been nominated by Kathy Strobl.
Her bio is below.
 Laura, along with her younger brother and sister were raised in Port Elgin, Ontario along the beautiful shores of Lake Huron. During her youth when she was not at band practice or horseback riding she spent her time swimming at the beach or hiking.
Being the daughter of a father who was a Rotarian, funeral director and an ambulance driver and a mother who was a teacher and a Brownie Instructor it was only natural that she cared about her community. At a young age she started helping her mother instruct at Brownies and was often seen volunteering at Rotary events and fundraisers.
After graduating from University of Guelph with a Major in Psychology and a Minor in Zoology Laura worked for a few years at Provincial and National Parks throughout Ontario before moving to Edmonton. What was to be a short one or two year re-location lasted over 24 years as she fell in love with Edmonton and it became her home.
Laura taught and worked for over 30 years in the Informal Education field designing programs, teaching and organizing conferences and events at the TELUS World of Science, Inside Education, and the City of Edmonton. A typical day would include building rockets, freezing things in liquid nitrogen, touring hydro-electric dams and blowing things up. Generally, playing for a living.
In 2015 Laura embarked upon a new career with Investors Group as a Financial Consultant. She is enjoying this new challenge to help individuals and families identify and realize their financial and life goals.
Laura co-habitates with her cat Frank, in a condo with a beautiful view of the river valley. During her free time she volunteers as a youth coach and board member with the Edmonton Overlanders Orienteering club, for Corporate Challenge Edmonton and numerous other organizations. She loves to travel and spends time reading, hiking, swimming and orienteering.
In accordance with our club bylaws (see 3.2.5 below), please indicate within seven days (7), by return email to the Club Secretary, Stan Kodric, if you have any knowledge that Laura does not meet the Rotary Four-Way Test and you object to the admission of her as new member, or if you require additional information regarding this candidate.
3.2.5 If the Board does not receive a written objection from a Member in Good Standing to the admission of the prospective Active Member, stating the reasons for such objection, within seven (7) days following the publication of information about the prospective Active Member pursuant to section 3.2.4, the prospective Active Member shall be considered to be elected to membership.
