Tuesday, February 9 Moving the Mountain Presentation
The Rotary Club of Whyte Avenue is pleased to welcome Jodi Stonehouse from the University of Alberta to present the Moving Mountains program.

Moving the Mountain is an integrated, holistic and individualized approach to learning that focuses on meeting the learning needs of vulnerable youth engaged in high risk behaviours, mainly of Indigenous heritage, with engagement and motivation. In partnership with Harvard University Native American Program since 2012, iHuman is prototyping a model that embraces an embedded curriculum, in contrast to most conventional educational systems.

Youth are engaged in every step of the learning process and it addresses their desires for a flexible, individualized, and safe learning environment. Embedded in a harm-reduction and empowerment framework, physical and creative activities are a priority, along with mental and physical health, and nutrition. Special projects that address the students’ cultural heritage will continue to be employed to develop an intrinsic motivation for goal setting and self-evaluation, and to strengthen a connection to community.

Rotary Leadership Institute Level II
On Tuesday, February 2, members of the Rotary Club of Edmonton Whyte Avenue completed the first session of the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) Level II. This involved club brainstorming, strategic planning and membership. Thank you to all who were able to attend. Many great ideas were presented and enthusiastically discussed by all!

The second session of RLI Level II will take place on Tuesday, March 1. Building upon this first session, members will be discussing club communications, team building and the Rotary Foundation!

Thanks to Edith Martin for leading us in this great session.
