On Tuesday September 14, we had the pleasure of hearing Jon Gogan, Provincial Director for Northern and Central Operations, tell us about Shock, Trauma, Air Rescue Service (STARS). Jon told us how STARS was founded in 1985 after a pregnant woman from a rural community died from blood loss, leaving a father alone with their newborn. For STARS founder Dr. Powell, her death was one too many. Something had to be done and a non-profit helicopter air ambulance service was begun and has grown to serve three provinces.
We have probably all seen the iconic red helicopters, but hearing first-hand about the incredible life-saving work that STARS Air Ambulance does gave us a new appreciation of just what those helicopters can do and why it is so important to support their work. Thank you Jon for sharing inspiring stories of this incredible organization! If you want to learn more about STARS, visit Stars.ca.
